Exhibited at the Louvre and appeared in Paris during the Olympics Ceramic blue and white with brocade incorporated into home product design
KUKA HOME's National Gift Blue and White Series cleverly incorporates traditional blue and white porcelain elements into modern furniture design, utilizing the intangible cultural heritage of brocade craftsmanship. The vivid blue and white patterns make the blue and white sofa not just a practical piece of furniture, but also a bona fide work of art, perfectly blending Eastern traditional culture with modern design and presenting unique cultural connotations and artistic value.
The series has been exhibited at the Louvre's 'The Beauty of China World Tour • Oriental Cloud Costume Exhibition' and during the Paris Olympics, it entered the 'China House' in Paris and the Chinese delegation building in the Olympic Village. One of the series' blue and white chairs was even collected by the Paris Olympic Committee, becoming a celebrated story.
Renowned Chinese artists join forces Crystallization of design and craftsmanship
The National Gift Blue and White Series specially invited two well-known Chinese artists, Li Jialin and Yang Chao, to collaborate. For the first time, they combined the intangible cultural heritage of brocade craftsmanship with the traditional cultural elements of ceramic blue and white, incorporating them into modern home products, realizing an aesthetic dialogue that transcends material and time.
Li Jialin is the founder of modern Chinese brocade, and his works have been presented as national gifts to foreign heads of state and dignitaries on 11 occasions, earning him the title of 'National Gift Master' from external parties. The exquisite and brilliant brocade craftsmanship has always been renowned. During the creation of the National Gift Blue and White Series, the team spent over 400 hours researching and adjusting the texture, hand feel, density, line selection, and shrinkage rate of the brocade. In the end, over one million high-quality silkworm silk threads were used in the meticulous production. To recreate the essence of blue and white, the team employed the modern brocade craftsmanship technique of pattern blurring, delicately outlining the gradual layers of landscape and figures, allowing the weave and colors to create a harmonious interplay, ultimately achieving the perfect combination of 'silk and porcelain.'
Yang Chao is a nominee for China's Top Ten Outstanding Young Designers, and his designs have won numerous international awards, including the German Red Dot Best of the Best Award, IF Award, and Italy A DESIGN AWARD Gold Award. In the creation of the National Gift Blue and White Series, he was responsible for the design of the blue and white patterns. The series selected nearly 20 classic blue and white patterns, including 'Swastika Pattern', 'Kirin Pattern', 'Entwined Peony Pattern', 'Blue and White Qiuguzixiashan Map', and 'Xiaohuangeyuexiazhuhans Map'. Among them, the Yuan blue and white pattern of the official kiln porcelain is exquisite and complex, with distinct layers, representing the pinnacle of ceramic firing technology and deep cultural heritage. The team applied the 'geometry' aesthetic concept to deconstruct and reconstruct these blue and white patterns, ultimately integrating them harmoniously.
